The heart of the blind Škodovák - blog

Temporarily dead

I'm sure you know it too. You are going to do something, for example, to winterize something, for example a car, but as you know it, something goes wrong. This is exactly what happened to me with my Škoda 120L Milena. Everything was running like clockwork, she still tried to start it on Wednesday, the gas tank was half full. I come on Thursday, I want to put gas in the carburettor and I find that there is absolutely nothing leaking. I thought that I didn't need to tap, that there was enough taping. I turn the key the first time, the second time, the third time, the starter does what it is supposed to do, but the engine does not and does not catch, not even an effort, not even a hiccup. And that was weird to me. It occurred to me that it was simply too drunk, so I tried starting without the choke and with the gas pedal depressed, but the result was the same. And then? Discovery and shock, the tank is empty, but there is no puddle under the car. Well, how is that possible? After all, half the tank doesn't just evaporate in cold weather. The only logical explanation is that someone simply drained the gas at night.

Very nice people came to me today, they wanted to take Milena to the garage for the winter. They knew about the empty tank, so they brought five liters of fresh and still fragrant gasoline with them. According to the instructions, they diluted it with an additive, so nothing should prevent driving to the garage. But what a surprise. The gasoline did not flow into the carburetor even after pouring new gasoline. Following the advice of an experienced renovator, we tapped the carburettor with a hammer, thinking it was a clogged valve, but again no knock.

So I have no idea where the buried dog is, the only thing that is clear is that Milena will pull the rope on Monday. My guess is that the fuel pump must have gone. Knowing that I was going to be dirty as hell, I manually went through everything from the AC pump to the carburetor, but I found nothing out of the ordinary, everything was in place and connected. What do you say? That I should have tried to pump gas into the box with the gas pedal? Well, I tried that, but the result is that it didn't help, and I almost drained the battery, and I have electricity in the garage, so I'll have to go to the store on Monday to get a charger.
