The heart of the blind Škodovák - blog

How do I record videos when I can't see?

I was originally going to make a video about this, however I came to the conclusion that a text article would be better explained.

There are really only three situations where I ask for help with videos. The first is when the video is too long and the camera splits it into several files. The second case is presentations, where a person is needed who controls some video editor and gives it the right stamp. The third case occurs in a situation where I am convinced that I cannot film the things I want to film myself, such as my own driving, a demonstration of the environment during rides or capturing a small detail under the hood. Other videos, such as the starts (shorter than 11:46, longer ones must be joined) or the car walk-through, are exclusively directed by me. But how do I actually do it as a blind person and where do I get the assurance that what I aim the lens at will actually be shown to the viewer?

I'm starting from a simple mathematical model that I learned a long time ago, back when apps for reading printed documents on your phone were a hot new thing. I've learned over time that when I want to capture some text, such as paper mail, it's ideal to hold the camera 15 to 20 centimeters below the camera. So I tried to apply this formula to my camera as well and, with a few exceptions, it works quite well for me. And the exception is the video in which I present the Škoda 100L and the second video where I describe the differences between the cars. I was trying to capture too much detail here, plus I had the camera strapped to my head. I thought that where I was looking with my eyes would be under the lens, but I didn't realize that the lens is a little higher than my eyes, so the switch for the dashboard light and the windshield wipers are not visible in the video, because the camera was just too high and in addition my the head movements were too fast, which I am not yet fully aware of while filming. Of course, I also have to take into account the width that the camera is capable of capturing and also the daylight, which also has an effect on the resulting image. However, that's also part of it, I'm practically blind and so I just don't bother with it. The main thing for me is that the given video has its own content and if someone gives a dislike because something can't be seen, that's also fine, because that can also move me forward. I would like to film tapping on the carburettor, for example, or show a poorly adjusted hose from the washers, but somehow I can't calculate the appropriate location of the camera here.
