The heart of the blind Škodovák - blog

Cars are my medicine

Sometimes luck just wants you. And at the moment when a person already thinks that he is avoiding him, something that he did not expect comes. And that was my case too. Thanks to chance and my passion for historic Škoda vehicles, I can not only dream, I can also live my dream.

For seven years of work in a company where I work on an agreement to carry out activities, which of course also corresponds to the salary, I managed to save an amount for which I thought I would buy my favorite Škoda for a hundred and twenty. But I didn't want to buy a rabbit in a bag, so I turned to the members of a Skoda fan group on Facebook with concerns. Why with concern? I went to the market with the skin. A blind man wants an old Skoda. I was more likely to be ridiculed or called a fraud, as I encounter this quite often in my hobbies due to my visual impairment. But I had no idea what I was going to do with my question. No mockery, sneers or insults, quite the opposite. I was warmly welcomed into the community, numbering at that time about 12000 people. But my interest in Škodovka has awakened a few people to something I would never have dreamed of. Although I wrote that I had the money for a hundred and twenty, they still decided to throw in some finance. The original joke was that everyone who received the invitation would send CZK 10, and it really caught on. But practically no one sent the 10 CZK, the amounts started with a hundred crowns, but some threw in several thousand.

I finally bought a Skoda. That might have wrapped it all up, but thanks to the Škodovkar community, my own budget didn't suffer in any significant way. Yes, for the rest of the money, I could have repaired my one hundred and twenty, which was named Milena by its first owners (unfortunately they are no longer alive), it has a few scratches on the exterior, but I don't consider it extremely necessary to repair them yet, so I decided that I will still try to look at my second most popular Skoda, the hundred. And I was lucky. Both for a beautiful car and for the first owner who is still alive. Although I originally wanted a XNUMX of the first generation with the cranks out, but it is practically impossible to get one for reasonable money.

So I rented a garage, kept one car in it and let the other one drive me. However, the budget was still not completely used up, so I had some ailments fixed for a hundred and twenty, I left the interior – that is, the exterior actually, I focused on the motorized part. But at the same time, it occurred to me that I have two historic vehicles and a basement full of various parts, from lights to wheels with discs. I don't even remember who gave me everything. So I started planning a small exhibition, which I named Touch the Transport.

And it was thanks to this exposure that I managed to get one more vehicle. I came to him blind to the violin, literally. I thank his former owner from the bottom of my heart, because Favorit came to me by an incredible accident. Originally, I didn't plan on getting the Favorita into the showroom at all, it was already too new a car for me - in fact, I didn't plan on any other car at all, because the budget was exhausted, but when they showed it to me, I changed my mind almost immediately and it was mine.

So, even as a blind person, I have a small fleet of cars and big plans for how to manage them. And although it may be unbelievable, cars are the best medicine for me due to my health situation. I may look like a fool when I go to the car to play an audiobook, but the feeling of holding the steering wheel, or leaning back like at home in the living room and not having to deal with anything, when you only hear the audiobook and the people around you is simply priceless. And if I happen to need to go shopping or to the doctor, there is always someone who will drive me in my own car. Sometimes it's a hundred and twenty, other times it's a hundred or a Favorite, but it's really an indescribable feeling of joy and happiness. Because of my exposure, I even learned how to make videos that I publish on my Youtube channel. Although I mostly only give starts there, because as a blind person I can't do much else, but in recent months I have also been playing with podcasts, which are very popular, especially among blind fans of motoring, and to my amazement there are quite a few of them.

And that's where my new motto comes from. "Not seeing and living life at full throttle is not out of the question. And if I ever have to take my foot off the gas, I really hate it!” The only pity is that many people envy my luck.
